from September to December fourteen years ago, I have et no time rendered æesistance of any kind in the carrying on of a trade or business in this Colony or elsewhere; and I have tha honour to submit that the agristænes 80 98 aforenaid rendered by me during the asid period was not much as to come within the meaning of the prohibition in the colonial Regulation.

During the whole courae of my long service with the Governæent of this Colnay at hes never been suggested to me that I have failed in anyway in the proper performance of my Aubiss, nor that I have devoled any portion of my time which ought to here been at the disposal of the Government in work, or amusement, for my om benefit or recreation.

Regulations; but the caté John Ta tam stated that no complaint voldd be made reainet se provided I paid to hin a few hundred dollars and riped out all accounts between us, võhich I sbsolutely refused to do.

This war the first occasion en which the possibility occurred to me of a contention being made that I had noted
incorrectly in rendering the sssiɛtence which I had rendered
to the said John Tetan. I believed however that I had not
in fugt moted imeorumetly in the matter, and preferred to
anmer any charge which might he made apoinat me rather than
to submit to extortion.
